The Maldives are home to healthy reefs that are bristling with corals and teaming with life. Acropora, Faulkner’s coral, Radiant coral, Spiky Soft coral, and Table corals are among the many species you will encounter.
Healthy reefs are populated with a diverse array of fish and critters. Hawksbill and Green turtles are found in the Maldives, along with a dizzying number of sweetlips, wrasses, parrot fish, butterfly fish, jacks, morays, angel fish, and even Moorish idols. The reefs also attract bigger predators, and you can find Spotted Eagle Rays, Blacktip Reef Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, and Leopard Sharks.
The Maldives’ location in the middle of the Indian ocean means it gets its fair of pelagic action. Encounters with Manta Rays, Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks, Whale Sharks, and dogtooth tuna are a regular occurrence in the right season.
